Enjoying the simple things in life.

It’s official – moving here was a Good Idea. We both like living here A LOT. This might have something to do with the beautiful warm sunny weather that we’ve been blessed with since the move, but I’m sure it’s not just that.

A couple of you asked what it was that made us decide to head here. Well, it was a combination of these things (in no particular order):

  • A bigger house, which had become a higher priority since we now work so much more from home (in fact, jay works from home all the time) and also hopefully with a baby on the way soon we’ll need that extra bedroom.
  • More countryside within easy reach. Both of us enjoy walking (hiking) and camping and generally spending time outdoors, even just in the garden and that’s all much more accessible from here. In fact we have footpaths galore right on our doorstep and the views are spectacular, even if the hill climbs are steep (well at least we’re going to get nice hard arses from the climbing). The dog thinks he’s moved to heaven.
  • A stronger, more visible lesbian community. Don’t ask me why, but this little corner of England is a positive mecca for outdoor dykes. Our local town is heaving with lady-lovers, seriously – gay cafes and gay pubs and gay girls holding hands in the streets. And it is girls not guys that this place seems to attract. Many of them have kids, so we figured this is going to be a great place to meet other lesbian mums and we know that our little ones won’t be the only tykes with two dykes as parents at their schools.
  • A more gay-friendly wider community. With the new wealth and business opportunities that have come here with the influx of lesbians, and simply by their sheer presence in such numbers, it appears that dykes are positively welcomed within the wider community in a way we never experienced in our old area, though things were never hostile.
  • It’s where the hippies live. Green issues; left-wing politics; complementary medicine; yoga; neighbourhood clear-ups; organic vegetable box deliveries; health food stores…..

So that’s why, really. And we’ve been making the most of it so far. And it’s good. This place is starting to feel like it could really be “home”.

EDITED TO ADD:- On the back of Melody’s comment, of course, all IVP members are more than welcome to come and visit! Just not all at the same time though, ok?
